Is It Time For a New Roof? (3 Quick Ways to Tell)

Getting a new roof may not be the most exciting project to have done to your house, but it is arguably the most necessary one. What is the good of a new kitchen or bathroom if the structure of your house is being invaded by pesky rain drops? The structure of your house isn't something that you get to see every day, but when you go to replace that shower, you may find yourself in a world of trouble!

Here are our 3 best tips to know if it's time for a roof upgrade!

1. Discontinuity in Your Roof

Sometimes a quick visual scan of your roof could tip you off that something may not be right. If you take a look at your roof and notice missing or torn shingles, bingo. You might also notice color not being consistent throughout your roof. This is because shingles grow algae called gloeocapsa magma in areas where weather is a little more wet. Pittsburgh, where we mainly work from, tends to get a lot of rain and snowfall, causing this to be a fairly common issue. This stuff naturally happens over time, and it is an easy well to tell if a new roof is an important investment.

2. The Time Test

The craft of homebuilding has gotten very advanced over time, but lifetime perfection is hard to achieve. Things will naturally become outdated or worn down as time goes on. If your roof hasn't been replaced in the last 15-20 years, it is definitely time to look into it. Keeping up with your roof will allow you to potentially avoid any structural issues. The goal is to not get to the point of damage, so being on top of the game and replacing your roof every 15-20 is the way to go. Be proactive, guys, not reactive!

3. Internal Water Damage

May Day! Well, it got to this point. Sometimes you move into a new place or get caught off guard, it happens to the best of us. The ceiling is discolored, leaking, or caving. Welcome to the wonderful world of water damage. There is no fixing any of that until the roof is taken care of. If you don't work top down, the issue will keep happening and that's not good. Water is difficult to deal with, so if the issue already happened, then take care of it the right way.
